COVID 19 (Coronavirus)

Each week we will host a Collective Worship in partnership with the TES, available each Thursday. This will provide opportunities for us to come together, hear from guest speakers, and to think and talk about the wider things affecting us.

10th March 2020

Charles Kingsley’s Primary School will follow instructions from the Department for Education on the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and Public Health England.  Current research indicates that the vast majority of children are considered low risk.

The Department for Education is emailing the school daily with advice and instructions.

Currently the advice is that no school should be closed in response to a suspected or confirmed COVID-19 case unless advised to do so by Public Health England.

Mrs Charlton will contact the Department for Education and Public Health England for advice and instructions when needed.

Hand Washing Regime

Below we have identified four times during the school day where the children will need to wash their hands.  We are also very aware of the impact this will have in class with regards to timings but it is important we do this.  We have a responsibility and duty of care to do the very best for our children in reducing and helping to ‘contain’ the outbreak.

Classes will follow the plan below:

Times children must wash hands:

  1. On arrival in the classroom
  2. Before break/snack
  3. Before lunch
  4. Before end of day.

Children will also be reminded of the importance of washing hands after going to the toilet and if coughing or sneezing into their hands.

Classes will use the link to teach children how to wash their hands effectively.  (Newsround Page https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/51698180)

Staff must also wash hands frequently at school.

Visitors to School

We will ask all visitors to clean their hands with antibacterial gel when they arrive at school.  Parents may wish to bring along their own hand gel if coming for assemblies/performances.  If supplies run out, visitors will be asked to wash their hands and will be escorted to the adult toilets to ensure safeguarding.

School Closure Decision – Out of Hours

If the school is to be closed because of the Coronavirus, outside of school hours, the cascade telephone action plan will be put into place to inform staff members.  A parent mail will go out to parents/carers to inform them that the school is closed.  It will also be posted on the school website.  The length of time the school will be closed will be determined by Public Health England and the Department for Education.  The school will keep everyone informed by parent mail messages.  A sign will be placed on the gate to inform everyone that the school is closed.

A link to the Department for Education will be sent to parents for government guidance.

Emergency School Closure Decision – During School Hours

If the Government advises that the school should close during school hours we will inform parents parent mail that they will need to collect their children as soon as possible.

If a parent cannot collect and needs to send an alternative person to collect, they must let the school office know who the person will be.  The office will then pass this information onto the class teacher.

All children must be collected.  No child will be allowed to walk home by themselves.

Children will be collected from their classrooms where possible.  Where not possible, LSAs will wait at the usual exits and will collect children from classrooms as their parents arrive.

Coronavirus Case Found in School

In the event that cases of the Coronavirus are found in school, we will follow instructions from the Department for Education and Public Health England.

The school will be deep cleaned by our employed cleaners.

If any staff members, pupils or parents/carers think they have symptoms of the Coronavirus, they should call NHS 111 for advice and follow the UK Government advice for childcare or educational settings gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-to-educational-settings-about-covid-19.

Parents/Carers can visit NHS.UK to find out more information.  Teachers and support staff should follow the UK Government advice.

Staff members/parents/carers/pupils must inform the school office if they think they have the Coronavirus or returning from countries with specific lockdown areas.
