  • Keeping the Faith

Fri 23 Jun 2023 Miss Armstrong

This week we took time to consider that each one of us is part of God’s creation.

We began by discussing this time of year: the current weather, the surrounding area and what we all enjoy most about the outdoors and nature. Unfortunately, lots of the things mentioned – trees, sunshine, ice creams we couldn’t bring into the hall to show! However, we had a bag containing smaller items and different children were chosen to describe to the school so they could guess what the item was. We had a plant, a water bottle, an apple and the Bible. The children were able to describe it and we thought about why God created it for us.

The children then shared their ideas about the best things God created and after each one, in our loudest voices we shouted, ‘You are part of God’s creation!’

We then moved on to one another… God made us all to enjoy everything that he has given us - to make the most of the fresh air and the outdoors, use our bodies and look after each other. God loves seeing us running around, having fun and being happy!

We ended our worship, standing up with one last cheer – “We are part of God’s creation!”

    Dear God,

Thank you for all that you give to us.

Thank you for all of nature and creation, for the food we grow, eat and enjoy.

Help us to play our part in creation.

Help us to look after each other and all that you have entrusted to our care.

    Amen.

  • Living God and reflecting Global Faith Worship

Mon 19 Jun 2023 Mrs Watson

Our Collective Worship today was all about transport, we used the Picture News image and question below as our focus.

Nowadays, people often travel long distances for fun but in Bible times, this was not the case. Travelling long distances was often hard and uncomfortable as people walked or rode on an animal such as a donkey or camel. It was also very dangerous. People preferred not to travel but many had to. Have you heard of Paul? He chose to travel thousands of miles, facing many dangers, to spread the teachings of Jesus.

    Our reflective prayer

    Dear God,

Thank you for all the different ways
we can travel, which help us explore
    your wonderful world,

Give courage to those who may
have a difficult journey to make,

    Amen

  • The Year 6 Leavers' Service at Winchester Cathedral

Fri 16 Jun 2023 Miss Armstrong

Da Vinci Class had an amazing day at Winchester Cathedral this week. They joined other Year 6 children from church schools across the diocese for a special Leavers' Service.

Throughout the day they took part in various workshops and then attended the actual Leavers' Service in the main cathedral hall. A very special and important memory to take with them as they end their journey at CKS.

  • Firefighter visit to Matisse and Cassatt

Fri 16 Jun 2023 Miss Kent

Year R and 2 had an amazing workshop with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue service. We learnt lots of key facts about how to stay safe around fire and also got to see how their uniform keeps them safe!

  • Lowry's Trip to Boscombe Beach

Wed 14 Jun 2023 Mrs Jacob

We had a fantastic trip to Boscombe beach on Wednesday. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky all day, perfect beach weather. One of the lifeguards came and spoke to the children about how to stay safe on the beach and when you’re in or near the water. We learnt what the different coloured flags means and where on the beach it is safe to swim. We also had a look at one of the lifeguard stations to see what they do there and what equipment they have. We did some great sculpting in the sand and made some lovely pictures and patterns. As the water was very still and calm we also dipped our feet in the sea, it was a bit chilly at first but we quickly got used to it, Ice lollies also cooled us down a treat! Before leaving the beach we took a walk along the pier and looked at the different human and physical features of the beach. The children were a credit to us and we really did have a perfect day at the beach!

  • Matisse’s trip to RHS Wisley

Tue 13 Jun 2023 Miss Kent

It may have been the hottest day of the year so far but Matisse were off on their travels. A day exploring RHS Wisley. Although the coach journey is often a favourite part of the day it probably was for Year 2 as they watched a film on the coach (what a treat).
Once at RHS Wisley Matisse had an amazing time. Carl our guide was so friendly and incredibly knowledgable. We learnt about what plants need, planted our own cornflowers, went on a nature scavenger hunt and explored the different temperate zones in the glasshouse!

Another exciting event was seeing a baby sequoia tree! We told our guide all about our schools link to sequoia trees!

What a wonderful but exhausting day. Thank you to all the adults that helped make it since a success.

  • Keeping the Faith

Fri 09 Jun 2023 Miss Armstrong

This week we celebrated our Founder’s Day and Charles Kingsley’s birthday.

170 years ago, Charles Kingsley's vision of education for all in Eversely and Bramshill became a reality as our school opened. Initially, it comprised of just one classroom (our library now), with the room for the teachers to live in today's main office and upstairs windows. I wonder if Charles himself would recognise CKS now?

Born in 1819, Charles Kingsley had a multi-faceted life, including becoming vicar for Queen Victoria and tutoring her son who became King Edward VI. He wrote many plays and books, with the most famous probably being The Water Babies - our mural in the library illustrates this story.

Opening Charles Kingsley's school was the fruition of Kingsley's concern about the lack of education for the labouring poor, with a particular focus on working children primarily. As with many key historical figures, the legacy of Charles Kingsley is subject to revision by social historians. Regardless, when we come into school each day, we are surrounded by the practical legacy of one man's vision to improve the lives of others.

This morning, Reverend Rachel led us in our Founder’s Day worship where we continued to reflect on our school value of ENVIRONMENT.

We considered the giant sequoia tree planted in the grounds of St Mary’s Church; how it grew from a tiny seed.  Our school is much like this tree; grown from Charles Kingsley’s vision.

Charles Kingsley wanted a balance in people's lives. No one should be too rich or too poor. People should go to church on Sundays, but they should also be able to relax on Sundays. Children should have an education but not too much. Children still needed to be children. He wanted them to have an education that was broad and rich….so he built our amazing school!

Reverend Rachel was kind enough to then take our tributes of flowers to the churchyard to lay on Charles Kingsley’s grave.

    Dear God,
Thank you for the founder of this school, Rev’d Charles Kingsley, who had a vision of teaching children things that would help them

grow in to the best people they can be.
Thank you, Jesus, that you help us to grow and to set a good example of learning about and looking after the environment around us.
God, through your Holy Spirit, help us to be resilient, and know that faith in you can help us to be grow and be strong, whatever happens in our lives.

       Amen

  • CKS Orienteering Festival Day

    Wed 07 Jun 2023

Our next festival day was as successful as the last ones.  It was different in the fact that all the children across the school had be doing orienteering as part of their PE sessions last term so the theme of the inter-house competition was orienteering.

It was definitely an active morning with the children showing great teamwork and determination as well as good map reading skills.

The smiles on the faces said it all.

The results were pretty close too.
