Nurture Support Assistant

Salary Type:              EHCC/Support Staff

Salary Details:           Grade D (step subject to experience)

Hours of Work:           15hrs per week (3 hrs a day to be worked over 5 days) 40 weeks a year (term time plus one week).

We are a single form entry “outstanding” church school (SIAMS 2016) situated in the heart of the Village of Eversley. The main duties will include:

  • attend training days and group supervision sessions led by Hampshire Educational Psychology Service as part of the Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) Role
  • attend training days and group supervision sessions led by Hampshire as part of the Framework for Enhanced Individual Pastoral Support (FEIPS)
  • plan and deliver individualised programmes of support for children to develop their emotional literacy 
  • write succinct session plans and add subsequent evaluative comments
  • liaise with teachers and other support assistants about the needs and progress of children receiving support
  • share knowledge and ideas from training/supervision sessions with other school staff as appropriate
  • meet regularly with line manager to review work
  • work within own competencies and level of development, under the guidance of the line manager


The ideal candidate will:

  • have a warm personality and is able to stay calm under pressure
  • demonstrate good interpersonal skills with children and adults
  • be able to gain the confidence of children who are behaviourally challenging or socially withdrawn
  • enjoy learning
  • be able to work independently and show initiative
  • good time management and organisational skills
  • be able to plan programmes of support that incorporate variety, interest and pace


If you are currently delivering ELSA in a primary school setting, we are keen to hear from you. Experience in other pastoral programmes such as Lego Therapy, Therapeutic Story Writing, Circle of Friends, Nurture Therapy, Thrive or FEIPs would be an advantage.
