World Book Day 2023 at CKS was another huge success. The children and the staff embraced the day with enthusiasm and huge smiles on their faces. The day began with a parade around the playground with a great crowd of parents watching on. There were many Matilda and Puss in Boot themed costumes as well as firm favourites like Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, Mr Men, superheroes and fairytale princesses. The day also gives the children the opportunity to show their particular passions, for instance astronauts and vets.
Poems by Joseph Coelho's book 'Poems Aloud' were shared with all classes and used as a stimulus for some creative work. Some of the Year 6 poems were tweeted with Joseph Coelho tagged in and he replied!
The teachers swapped classes this morning so that they could share a favourite story with another class which the staff and pupils enjoyed in equal measure.
The Nurture groups had set up a story character trail outside by the gardens, pond and back field - Year 1 and 2 explored that this afternoon in the sunshine.
In Worship this afternoon, not only did we sing along to the World Book Day Song (to the tune of George Ezra's Shotgun) but we looked at the books the children could get with their book voucher and the weird and wonderful places that children had been reading books as part on the sponsored book event.
All in all a fantastic day enjoyed by everyone. A huge thank you to the parents for their hard work and in many cases creativity in ensuring the children book character costumes came to life.
